FYI for Parents:
1. Parents should set a good example for their children with their driving habits.
2. If a student passes this class, here are some areas of concern:
a. Teenagers should not drive with other teenagers for a while.
b. Winter driving can be hazardous.
c. Your child's initial driving experiences should be short trips.
d. Your child must be on your insurance policy before driving.
e. Make sure your child wears a seatbelt.
3. If your child isn't following the rules, two good options are take the car keys or suspend their license at the department of motor vehicles before the age of 18.
4. You are legally and financially responsible for your child up to the age of 18.
5. Price for course is $165.00 to SD 244. Check goes to the Grangeville High School Office. There will be no hold on checks. Checks are due by April 20that 4pm. If the student fails the class, this price is nonrefundable. If a student withdraws before the class start date, the check is refundable.
6. Once the student has registered for the class, the parent must purchase a permit at the Idaho County Court House DMV in the basement. You need to purchase the permit between April 8 and April 24th. Remember that you need to take the following items with you or you will not be able to purchase your permit:
a. Birth Certificate (Hospital copy is ok for the permit. You will need the
State issued birth certificate for the Drivers License.)
b. School Verification of Compliance Form
c. Picture Identification
d. Social Security Number
e. Parent or legal guardian to sign permit. (Step parents are not allowed, only birth parents or legal guardian)
f. Bring glasses or contacts if you cannot see 20/40 to pass the eye exam.
g. Permits are $18.50 at the DMV in Grangeville. Of that $18.50, $3.50 will go as a Skills Test Deposit so you will not have to pay that when registering for a Skills Test with the county.
7. When the student goes to take a skills test, the skills test will cost them $11.50.
8. Do not sign the permit until the 6 month period is over.
